Hello and welcome! I’m an oil painter from Peterborough New Hampshire, now based in Portland, Maine. I’ve been painting since I was very little and have always felt the urge to create. My connection to nature is a huge part of who I am and my paintings - I owe that to my parents who had my siblings and me running around outside in all weather after school. I love to paint very large spaces, scenes that make me feel expansive. This feels important to me and I’m still uncovering why. I also love when you’re going through your day and see a familiar scene hit with a new light and it takes your breath away for a moment. Weird light is very exciting! Now that I live near the ocean I’m seeing that all the time. I’ve recently started a portrait series, breaking the rules of realism a little at a time as I use textiles and strange colors to create something dream-like. My memories are very tied to certain fabrics from my childhood, so I’m loving painting family and friends in certain clothes and blankets, at once locking in my own memories while capturing them in the present moment. Color and texture are becoming more and more vital and I hope to continue pushing myself in still life and portrait especially. I love all forms of painting, and even on my bad days I hope to continue to discover very ordinary scenes, as well as old dreams, through paint!
